Does redesigning you children's room require an Interior Designer?

Every child is a complete world, every child is a story. It's true that we, the parents, think we know our children’s likes, wants and needs – but often these choices are incompatible. Therefore you need to find the middle ground, and put a lot of thinking into the question: how to still do this? How to design a room that where both the children and the parents will be happy about?

So, before you start redesigning your children's room, here are few points to think about:

1. Age of the child: A toddler, a little child or a teenager?

2. The design cost: it is preferable to plan ahead - What is your budget for renovation, remodeling or redesigning the children's room.

3. Home requirements: Will it be a room for one child or together with a sibling? Is it for bedtime only or also a playroom?

4. Size of the room: It is important to fit the size of the furniture to the size of the room. A load of furniture and accessories makes it difficult to move around and generates a permanent atmosphere of chaos. As children's rooms are overloaded by nature, pay attention to the proportions.

5. Lighting: Consider the openings and the natural light in the room.

6. The child's character: What makes them relaxed? What do they like to do when staying alone in the room? What are their preferred colors?

7. Safety: Pay attention to sharp corners, poisonous crayons, standard marks etc.

After you consider all of the above, explore some recommended interior designers, estimate the costs and start to implement according to this list:

1. Funiture

Choose pieces of furniture that will hold for several years. Nowadays you can get a bed at any shape and measures, so it can be perfectly adjusted to the child's age. For example, if this is a 6 year old boy who likes sleepovers, get him a pull-out bed or a friend's futon. If this is an 8 year old child, you might want to think ahead and purchase a twin-size bed that can be used for several years. If the child is a teenager, you can seriously think about purchasing a small king-size bed for the long run.

Pay attention to the wardrobe: Do you need shelves or a place to hang the clothing? If this is the room of a little child, make the toys accessible, and place them at the proper height for playing and organizing.

2. Colors

Using relaxing pastel tones creates cozy and calm atmosphere. Pick furniture pieces with natural colors such as white or wood that are suitable for girls and boys and are greatly harmonized with any other item in the room.

3. Wall Design

You can enrich the wall design by using wallpaper, magnetic board, a chalkboard or pictures that are age appropriate, as well as a variety of accessories. This is where you can ask the children for their preferences, since these items are usually less expensive than the furniture itself.

Keep in mind that a child’s room is their private temple, the place where they dream and shape their story. Pay attention to their needs and match it with the house requirements. This is how you craft a prefect room.
